Regina’s Readiness Fitness’ Spartan SGX Training program is for anyone looking to run a Spartan Race (or even just train like a Spartan!).
Established in 2013 by Canada’s first Level 2 Spartan SGX Coach Tracy Read, we have trained hundreds of Spartans through our co-ed Spartan SGX Program. We have worked with people of all ages and walks of life coming right of the couch to elite athletes. With our OCR for Kids program, we are also proud to train entire families!
Today, Readiness’ Spartan SGX Program is lead by Jess Paul, Certified Spartan SGX Coach L2 and Spartan Obstacle Specialist. Jess has been racing since 2015, qualifying for the Obstacle Course Race World Championships every season. Jess competed in the OCRWC representing Canada in 2016 and 2017 and is passionate about sharing her love of the sport through the SGX Program.
Spartan SGX Coaches Natasja Barlow and Mark Leugner, both seasoned members of the Readiness Fitness Spartan Race team, round out our SGX Coaching Team. Natasja is also a certified Obstacle Course Specialist.
Readiness Fitness Spartans train both indoors at our studio and outdoors in our yard and beyond. Our outdoor training facility is 7,000 Square feet and is equipped with a number of obstacles for hands-on training experience (monkey bars, eight and 10 foot walls, traverse wall, balance beams, spear throw, the Olympus, ropes, tractor tires, logs, and more!).
While some of our training happens at Readiness Fitness’ training facility, you will also often find our athletes training at locations throughout Regina, including Douglas Park Hill, Mount Pleasant Hill, the back lawn at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, around Wascana Lake, and on the streets of Regina. From time to time, we also venture out of the city to Mission Ridge, and Wascana and White Butte trails.
Our 12-week program has a variety of classes that follow the seven pillars of SPARTAN: Stamina, Power, Athleticism, Recovery, Tenacity, Attitude and Nutrition. Spartan SGX Training is far more than just training for a Spartan Race; it is about building better humans and helping to create the best version of ourselves.
Our Spartan SGX trainers have other certifications and years of experience in other athletic pursuits, which helps them incorporate important components of yoga and a run club into our training and provide our members with a well-rounded program. Readiness Fitness also offers a number of other classes that compliment our Spartan SGX program, including Kettlebell Club and Steel Mace Training.
Readiness Fitness Spartan Racers compete at races all across North America and we generally travel with a large team to a few races each year including to Montana (Beast & Sprint) and Red Deer (Super & Sprint). Some of our athletes have qualified and competed in the OCRWC and have proudly represented Canada at this event.
We are proud to offer a safe and welcoming environment to anyone looking to train to become a Spartan. We build each other up and celebrate our successes!
